What the Heck? I Didn’t Change Anything!

It started with a simple early morning email: “You are now sharing data with NFL” Wait. I didn’t agree to that.

I was looking at privacy settings connected to Peacock and Roku, trying to understand why something didn’t seem to match what I remembered choosing. What I expected to be a quick check turned into something much bigger—a lesson in how our data moves, how privacy choices are layered across devices and platforms, and how easy it is to assume our settings reflect what we actually want.

And somewhere in the middle of clicking through menus, asking questions, and trying to make sense of what I was seeing, I realized something else:

This is exactly the kind of thing we should be learning how to do with AI.

I wasn’t asking AI to make the decision for me. I was using it to help me understand the decision in front of me.

There is a difference.
